THE ROMANCE OF PENDLETON
Death in its most horrible form
faces William Duncan, star of "Smash
ing Barriers," Vitngraph's latest serial
thriller, during the eighth episode,
which will he shown at the Pastime
Theatre today. Duncan, his pal and a
detective, aiding him in the hunt for
his kidnapped sweetheart. Edith John

ferryboat in an auto. I'nknown to

The machine and its trapped occu
pants plunge under the water and the
boat keeps on its course. Duncan
manages to get one of the doors open
as the auto sinks, and helping the
others out, they rise to the surface.
Fortunately a motorboat. cruising near
is attracted by their shouts and plight
and goes to their rescue.
This scene cost the Vitagraph com

any other three scenes of the serial.
A ferry boat had to be rented and an
automobile purchased Just to destroy.
William Duncan directs the action of
the picture aa well as being its star
and it is said he has taken more time
and put more pride into Its production
than any of his previous ones.
