Clerk.
CAMDEN. Jan. 21. Lewis Weis-
band, a grocer at 28th street and Polk
avenue, was swindled out of $2,000.
four diamond rings valued at $500
and a $100 watch yesterday. The
swindler called himself Kerensky.
H told Weisband, when they met
three weeks ago, that he was out of
work and had a wife and three chil
dren in New York City to support.
Several days later Kerensky told
Weisband he had met a man who had
a chest full of Mexican gold nuggets,
which ho wanted to sell quickly, so he
could leave town. Kerensky introduc
ed the man to Weisband. The nug
gets were produced. Another man,
who said he was an expert, appeared
with acids and scales, tested the gold
and pronounced it worth about $6,
000. Weisband withdrew his life's sav
ings from the bank, turned over his
jewelry and took the nuggets. Today
he went to the Assay Office and found
the nuggets were brass and worth
about $3. -

Considerable enlivenment was
caused In the editorial sanctum of the
Muddletoo. Weekly by the arrival in
the morning postbag of a fine young

"A piece of luck!" chortled the ed

to his envious sub.
That evening a sumptuous repast
appeared on the editorial dining table,
and nothing remained at the meal's
conclusion but the bones.
A somewhat different complexion
on the affair, however,, transpired
next day when the chicken contribu
tor wrote to the editor thus:
"Dear Sir: A. few days back I sent

Then, with a gracious smile, she
