How about Prosperity? Shall we build up pros perity In the East by buying Eastern products, or shall we "buy home products" . because we want to see pros perity, like charity, "begin at home"? ' Home Industry League of Oseoom GERMAN ARMY BEHIND OV T. Bolshevik Scope Uncertain Due to Underground Method. tiOXDON.: Nov. 28. The situutlon is largely the re uslt of the forcefulnessof Kurt Ksner. ! president of the Havarian republic, j who gave the federation to clearly understand that Bavaria and other states will not tolerate either the old gang or bolshevik dictatorship. So cial democrats, under Rcheidenamann and independent socialists under Haas, although temporarily partners in so cialist coalition, are still rivals, as formerly. Moreover, each Is especial ly superstitious of the other. ItoNlievik I'ndcrhandnl. In the meantime. It is probably growing in Industrial regions, but is apparently making no headway In the army. Therein, together with the natural Teutonic tendency toward organlration and discipline. probably lies an assurance that the new Germany will not follow In rtus sia's footsteps. imiin ir ' "Wlllum IlolipmolWn" i :iroM llnlri-d or ontempu A.M1-:RON01:N. COOTIE IS CONQUERED FIRST C0f HARVESTER ON PUSH AND PULL VARIETY The combined harvester and thresher, or "combine," a familiar sight In Umatilla county wheatflelds, was first built and operated In 182 by an Oregon man, Levi T. Davis, of McMinnvllle, Oregon, who is still liv ing. A picture of the first combine ever bu)lt hangs In County Agent M. S. Shrock's office In the federal build ing, and from the photograph does not appear to have cut over about seven feet. This first machine was of the "push and pull" variety and waa patented by Davis and his brother who began manufacturing machines In the Oregon Iron Works m Port land. After several machines were made and old, a fire In 1887, swept the Ore gon Iron Worka and destroyed all ex cept the patent right and one ma chine. These were sold to T. M. Cre- ary who shipped the machine to Cali fornia and began manufacturing them there, afterwards selling out to Holt brothers. Mr. Davis still has Invoices for ma terial and labor for construction of several machines dated 1867. Bv a strange coincidence, a fire in the Datent office in Washington. D. C. destroyed the model upon which the nm.nt was Issued. This model cost Davis Brothers $200. VA(IE FIVE 2. :,. ait--.- : -.I1-. Declare Wood Ship fineness. BAN FRANCISCO, Nov. l.
