SEAPLANE OBSERVER RELEASING PIGEON
I A rousing speech was given to the
students of the High School this morn
ing by Rev. J. E. Snyder, of the Pres
byterian church, who told of his ex
periences during the time he was at
Camp Lwis. He said that the watch
word of the national army is "effici
ency," and that when a man first
comes into the training- camp he is
given a little book telling him how to
be efficient.
I He surprised his audience by telllnr .
i them that J9 per cent of the drafted
'men of the army are physically unfit
for service and that 90 per cent of
those are unfit because of their own
'folly. In telling this. Mr. Snyder cited
I W illie Ritchie, a famous boxer, who
i came into the camp. He was green
like the rest of the rookies, but bo
(cause he was physically fit he was
made a captain, with the charge of
a number of men. In closing; his
l speech, Mr. Snyder said, "Keep your
mind pure and your soul can't help
i being pure.'
