What LESLIES WEEKLY, of January 5th,
has to say about the
MOTOR INDUSTRY IN 1918
All eoncliisiojis pnfnt to i.ur one faet- the automobile in
dustry cannot be put out of business bemuse of the war; '
rather will it be made stronger and mote firmly entrenched
as a solid, substantial organization whieh has already provid
ed the (lovf'ninnit with two of the five great essentials ne
cessary for the winning of the war. v
"The uncertainty as to the future production ability of the
automobile industry, most seriously affeuts the wou Id -bo
owner of a new cur. The imirket tails for hundreds of thou
sands of new vehicles, and if this demand cannot be fully met,
a shortage will exist even more serious than that found less
than a'decade ago when customers Were paying 2U and 50
per cent premium to the lucky holders of orders for the de
livery if a new cur of the desired make. Some Investigators
have gon so far as to predict That, owing to the limited pro
duction, in two years from now a lyis model will be aM sea reo
as is one of the vintage of 1 J 1 0 on the hivhwuy today. We
can assure our readers that conditions will not be as bad as
this, but the constantly-rising cost of labor and materials and
the increasing demand of t he Ooern incut on the designing
and productive efficiency of tho automobile factories gives
the w'ould-be new car owner of the next year or two to come
but two words of warning 'III V NOW.' "
A word to the wise ought to be enough.
