PENDLETON SPIRIT
: IS COMPLIMENTED
BY DR. MARSHALL
The subject of ..Mr. Marshall for
tonight Is "Two Kids." Last nlghl
he spoke on Pendleton's slogan "Let
'er Buck."
High compliment is paid to Pen
dleton In many things. He said. I
admire the splendid enthusPism. the
business spirit and the strong team
work in the enterprises you under
take. I like the way you get under
the Liberty Loan, the Bed Cross, and
the other burdens of state nnd na
tion. But you forget all this fine
spirit when It comes to tlw claims oi
the Almighty. r am reminded of
Esau who came in hungry from his
; hunt and Jacob bought his birthright
for a mess of pottage. Ksau just
! said, oh well. "Let er buel;."i Afi
! erwards he sought a plate of re
pentance but it was too late.
There was a New Testament mer
chant, with a beggar nt his gate. The
account shows that while he pros
pered here In forgetfulness of God
he became a dry farmer in hell
scratching for moisture. On earth
he said, 'Eat, drink and be merry.'
"Let 'er buck.
On the Jerico road some men were
traveling along apd it appears that
they must have had an ordinance
against speaking and more than two
people constituted a crowd. I would
have liked to hava gone down on the
street to the men who a wort they
would never enter a church if the
state went dry.
The Master warned the people to
make peace with God, I am here to
