Umatilla county normally produces between 5 and 6 million bu. of wheat and thia
year every effort wa made to increae the yield... It is afe to say that the Uma
tilla county farmer raised a bushel of wheat for every soldier in the British army.
In addition the Blewett Manufacturing Co. of Pendleton turned out 50 up-to-date
combine harvesters to aid in garnering the crop of the inland empire. Tne lop
view shown above is of a Blewett harvester working on an Eastern Washington
ranch. The other views show harvesters of various makes at work on Umatilla
county farms. No. 1 is the Bruno Webber combine; 2, George La Fountain; 3, N.
A. Humphrey; 4, Thomas Thompson; 5, Ira Perkins; 6, W. S. Campbell; 7,
George Peringer and 8, Frank Snyder. Practically all the harvesting in the
county is done by combines.
