was on the mountains near Meachain

lights dipping and swerving about.

flushing and cleaning of the paved
streets of Pendleton during the next
year. Their bid of 37 a month was
declared the best last evening and
they will 'begin their duties as soon
as the contract Is signed. The only
other bidder was W. A. Hoagland.

Pavement Laid to Cat.
The Warren Construction Co. is to
day completing paving the Wild Horse
highway from the city limits to the
cut. This was the most dirricun
stretch of the. ten miles to be paved.
inasmuch as It had never been ma
cadamized. The company had to put
in a complete base as well as surface.
The hotstuff is being made at the
plant In this city and hauled out.
However other plants are being estab
lished at Saxe and Havannah. The
local nlant will be used for only th
first two miles of the work. All of
the gravel fur the highway is being
secured from the river near Walter
Mill, it is taken across the river on
nn aerial tram and dumped Into bins
from which It Is loaded Into cars and
taken out along the highway. The
crushed rock for such further base as

little chansre since he was taken to
the hospital.
Miss Dottle Probst, who was In
jured near the end of the Terwilliger
boulevard Monday morninff, when F.
M. Hendrlx of The Dalles, received
injuries that resulted in his death,
is greatly improved this morning- and
her recovery is predicted by physi
cians. Other surviving victims of the two
accidents of Sunday are beyond dan
ger and have left the hospitals.

quelled early today when an armed
posse of rangers and cowboys drove
the disturbers from the mine prop
erty in the Sierra Anchas mountains
and arrested tow leaders. The Indians

States Asbestos Mine company, had
