plete the organization of the Pendle
ton chapter. The reports of the va
rious committees were heard and a
new committee to formulate rules
was appointed. Including Miss Edith

Yesterday 20 women responded to
the first call for work Issued by the
I'mattlla chapter, Red Cross society,
the meeting being at tho county li
brary. Surgical dressings are now
being made. In explanation of the
work taken up here a local leader in
the move said: "It Is rather a stal
gerlng thought 40 realize what the
future of these gause dressings will
be, yet they are the true symbols of
the industry and mercy of the men
and women who ure trying to stop
some of the great wuiinds of life. Tho
Red Cross the official relief organi
sation of the-United States may not
be able to prevent war or civilian dis
aster but It lessons some of the pain
and sufferings. It is the duty of
every American citizen to ally him
self with the Red Cross and help to
make the American Red Cross the

Mrs. Ella Reager, who for seven
years has been record keeper of the
1-e.dy Maccabees, and during that
time has missed but .two meetings,
was presented with a handsome Lad)
Maccabee pin yesterday in apprecia
tion of her splendid services and un
tiring devotion to the lodge. The
presentation came as a complete sur
prise to Mrs. Reager, the meeting be
ing held in Eagle-Woodman hall.
Later, the members initiated a large
class and then adjourned to the Del
ta for a luncheon in honor of Mra
Reager. the new members and Mrs.
Nona Rogers, who has served as
the efficient chairman of several com
mittees. A thoroughly delightful
time waa enjoyed.
The W. C. T. V. tomorrow after
noon and evening at the club room of
the library have arranged the follow
ing program for the state and na
tional organiser and lecturer, Mrs.
Lottie Hannon: A vocal solo, Mies
Ksther South, accompanied by Miss
Olga Norgren, a vocal duet. Miss
Arloulne Clevenger and Mrs. Virgil
Fendall. At 7:30 o'clock a public
lecture on the subject of "Balrlotlsm"
will be given. Decorations will be in
the national colors. Walter Rom
will sing a patriotic selection.
