Borne of Bennett's adventures as John Slocum are of an exciting kind. He fluctuates between penury and af fluence with extraordinary rapidity and grace, accepting the slings an t arrows of outrageous fortune with entire equanimity and eternally main taining an open eye for the mala chance w hich always presents Itself to the Slocum If Bennett la the creator, Adrlenne Morrison, who Is Mrs. Bennett in private life, has the part of Bess De Voe, protege and ward of SliK-um's rich uncle, and throughout the development of the piece she Is rival of "Mary," as well as a serious menace to the proper ordering of John's love affair with Mary. In addition to those named, ths east, includes George Perlolat as John Crow; Alfred Hollingsworth as Uncle Henry and Charles Newton as Steele. As the young broker, Mr. Perlolat, one of the foremost character actors ( of this country, gives a very excel lent characterization. The elements in this play are suf ficiently diversified to afford all In cluded in the cast an opportunity to appear at their best. Bennett, for instance, is a broken wanderer in a cheap boarding house at one moment and a Broadway spender in a sable coat when next encountered. Bees De Voe (Miss Morrieson) graduates quickly from her surround ings in the quiet home of the million aire Fncle Henry', to those of the New York theatrical dressing room.
