We have ex perienced some of our coldest weath er during the past week, when the thermometer went down to 38 degrees below on Tuesday morning. Last year at the fame date It was 45 de grees below. On 8aturday night the cold spell had broken and it began to snow again. By Sunday morning the new snow fall was a foot deep. Supt I. E. Young paid Meacham school a visit on Tuesday, Mr. J. D. Casey left on Tuesday for several days' businea trip and a visit with Mrs, Casey in Porland. R. Fagan and H. ShrekJse made a business trip to Pendleton on Thurs day. Mrs. H. Warner returned to her home at Coomb's Canyon on Friday after spending a week visiting her parents, Mr. and Mm. j Barker. J. E. Marshal made a husiness trip to Pendleton on Friday, Glen Smith of Pendleton, was a visitor In Meacham on Friday. J Barker has Just finished hauling In his last year's wheat and storing It in Marlin's new warehouse. Mrs. F. H. Denson and Miss Elsie Denson went to Pendleton Satur day. Those making a trip to La, Grande on Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Calvert, Mrs. M. Riddle ,A, Thomp son and w. Sweeney. W. Shepard made a business trip to Pendleton on Saturday. The deer which Is stalled between here and Kamela is still at the same place and is being fed It has proven to be an elk, Instead of a deer as first thought FOR ALL STOCK PORTLAND, Jan. 22. With the ex ception of sheep, in which line pack ers brought in more stuff direct from their feedlots, there was a decreased run of livestock into the North Port land yards, as compared with the previous six days. In all lines there was a decrease of offerings for the open market.. Higher prices were forced in all lines. This was true especially of the mutton and lamb division of the trade. While no sales of lambs were made on the open market above 311.25, the fact that Willamette valley stock sold up to this price indicated a still great er (luotation for superior quality east of the mountain stuff. Best quality cattle was in excellent demand In the North Portland yards during the week. The run was much below that of the previous six days. Real good stuff sold quickly, with steers as high as 8.50 and sows up to 37.50.
