meeting of the dairymen and hog rac
ers of the project was held Wednes
day night at the Coumbla school
house. This meeting was called for
the purpose of deciding whether or
not to continue the Dairy and How
Show which has been held here each
fall for the past four years. Owlns
to the fact that the expenses Incurred
each year by the dairy show had to
be borne by the business men of the
city. It was thought to be too much
of a burden to be carried by them
alone, unless they had the support of
the farmers. Therefore, a call was
sent out for a meeting to ascertain
the sentiment existing among the
dairymen and hog raisers as to
whether they wanted the show con
tinued or not. At the meeting last
night, they unanimously pledged
their support and hearty co-operation
for the coming show In the fail
of 1917. A statement signed by a
committee of the Civic Center Club
of the Columbia district was read, In
which It was stated that they had, at
a recent meeting of the club, unani
mously pledged their support of the.
dairy show.
It was further unanimously agreed
at the meeting last night, to stand by
'and support the Hermiston creamery,
and a committee composed of George
Cresay, F. P. Phlpps and F. Wauga
man, was named to represent the far
mers with the Creamery Company.
The annual Library ball given on
New Year's night was a most attrac
tive affair, and was largely attended.
A pleasing feature of th evening was
the "Review of the Year," being rep
resented by Hugh Frafer in winter
costume with sled arid snowball as
January; Miss Gladys Smith ln a cos.
tume characteristic of Sf. Valentine's,
represented February; Gregory pinni
gan In the costume of St. Patrick's
day posed as March.: April wa typified
by Miss Mabel Brown in rainbow
costume; Miss Francis Hinkle was the

as she stepped upon the stage In
representation of the month of May;
June wag beautifully portrayed by
Miss Marion Brlggs as a lovely bride;
July was appropriately represented
by Alfred Groom as "L'nele Sam;"
Miss Vera 'Purdy gowned as a typi
cal summer girl with tennis' racquet,
represented August; Logan Todd, as
September, In costume typical of the
harvest; Miss Clarice Watson ln the
garb of a witch, hobled across the
stage leaning heavily upon her cane,
and with a grinning pumpkin In her
hand ably portrayed the month of Oc
tober with Its spirits of goblins and
witches; November was sweetly typi
fied by Miss Fannie Todd ln a Pil
grim's costume; December, of course,
by Santa Claus. who was represented
by F. M. Guiwits.
Funeral services for little Anna
Salzer. Infant daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Clarenoe Salzer, who died at Su
Anthony's hspital in Pendleton Sun
day, were held from the Methodist
church Wednesday morning, Rev
Thomas Graham officiating. Inter
ment was made In the Hermiston
cemetery.
Mrs. Frank Toner and tw0 little
sou, of Burke, Idaho, arrived Sunday
morning for a visit with Mrs. Toner's
sister, Mrs. W. T. Roberts.
