to live but a short while longer. He
returned to his lodging house y and
died Inter of heart disease. The body
was i-hipped here and has been burled
according to the veteran's wishes.

Father Tries to Bury Child.
NEW YORK, Dec. 22 Unable to
bear the expense of having an un
dertaker bury the baby girl bom to
his wife in Bellevue Hospital a few
days ago, Joseph Gerdane, iniriy-sev-en
years old, of No. 216 Amsterdam
Avenue, Manhattan, took the chila
to Greenwood Cemetery, in Brooklyn,
yesterday In a cardboard box and
tried to bury It himself.
Gravedisfcers Interfered, with the
result Cerdane was arraigned before
Magistrate Dodd, charged with at
tempting burial Vithout a permit and
not having conformed with the reg
ulations of the health department.
Magistrate Dodd paroled the prison
er until today, and told him to take
the baby to the Manhattan morgue,
t'nless somebody comes forth 1 with
the necessary money, the baby will
be buried In PoV-er'a Field.
