Indian Fined for Killing Bird.
Charles Smith, a mixed blood, ap
peared, before Justice of the Peace
Parkes' yesterday afternoon and
pleaded guilty to a charge of shooting
a pheasant. He was fined 25 and
costs, the whole amounting to J41.60.

Child Has Pneumonia.
The little boy of Mr. and Mrs. Ben

has been brought into the hospital. It
is quite ill with pneumonia.

After tomorrow the days will be

when the longest period of daylight
will be reached. Tomorrow there wilt
be less daylight than any other day
in the year.

O. A. C- Band Coining.
The O. A. C Student band will
probably make a visit In Pendleton
during the holidays. Vioior M. Orr
of Milton, who Is a member of the
band, has written to local friends stat
ing that the band will appear here if
suitable arrangements can be made
for a house.
Plead Guilty to C.anibllns.
W. Miles and William Robens, two
of the colored men arrested at tha
rmatllla Club Tuesday morning, th's
afternoon pleaded guilty to gambling
and, upon the recommendation of
City Attorney Fee. they were let off
with J25 fines. The case against
G. Coburn was dismissed for want
of evidence.

I J. W. rfuff apeared before the
council last evening to complain of
a concrete crosswalk at the 'intersec
tion of Bluff and Lilleth streets. It
is lower than the street, he said, and
consequently Is so covered with mud
hj It Is unfit. He declared the walk
is below grade. The council decided
to have the city surveyor determine
whether or not it is on grade.
LAND-GOING SEA LION
TAKES A FISHING TRIP
LONPOX, Dec. 21. Dispatches
from Budapest say the only remain
ing sea lion in the Dresden Zoological
Gardens successfully rebelled against
war conditions,

meats of fish. So Sunday night he
went hiking. He flopped his wav
across country to Carola Pond, half
a mils away. A German fishmonger
leased Carola Pond and In It raises
carp for the market. Ha has not been
to market for several days for the
lion had a banquet that did not leave
even a baby carp.
He has been caught and returned
to his own pond and a guard placed
to see that he does not go out dlnlns
again, for the fishmonger is suing the
Zoo for 1000 marks (1250) damages.
Chorti Practice Tonight,

gram at 7:30 o'clock tonight at the
Presbyterian church. All are urged

Lou Rayburn, night officer of the
police force, is a crack shot and a

Complain of Dairy.
Complaint was made to the council
last evening bv residents of the north
side through Councilman Taylor of
the Despain dairy which is inMde the

offensive odors from the place when

greeable there The city recorder
produced an ordinance which prohib
its any one person from keeping more
than two cows Inside the city limits.
