The rescue was af fected from the shore by means of a breeches buoy and furnished for sev eral thousand spectators the thrilling finish of an exciting day. Henry L. Carl Is HI. Through Kit Carson Post, G. A. R , word has been received here of the rlous illness of Henry L. Carl at his home at 103 E. 30th street Portland. Years ago Mr. Carl was in the barber business In Pendleton and he was a commander of the local G. A. R. He la very advanced in years and it Is feared he may not survive his present ilaess.
