At pres ent he is still a guest of the city. He admitted that he had stopped in Salt Lake only one night and was head ed for North Yakima, which is like wise dry. Illegal Shooting Charged. A warrant for the arrest of Charley Smith, an Indian, charging him with killing birds out of season, has been issued. Arctic Owl Paes Away. The Arctic or snowy owl which has beea in captivity at the office of Ma jor Lee Moorhouse for the past four or five days, died late yesterday aft ernoon. It had refused everything of fered it to eat during its captivity, It was skinned by Stanley Jewett of the biological survey and the skin will be proserved as a biological specimen. Funeral of Pomeroy Resident. At 11 o'clock this morning at the Folsom chapel was held the funeral of Mrs. Jane Davison of Pomeroy, Wash., who died there on the 9th ot bronchial pneumonia at the age of T8. Her husband was buried in the local cemetery about two years agj and her body was laid to rest in the same plot. Rev. Charles Qulnney of the Church of the Redeemer conduct ed the funeral and members of the. Masonic erder acted as pallbearers. Power Is Shut Off. Pendleton was without electric power most of the morning on ac count of a pole burning down on the Walla Walla river near the power plant. The power was shut down again about noon when another pole took fire near Athena. In both cas es fire was caused by ignition from the wire off an Insulator. Divorce Is Granted. . A divorce decree was granted yes- I terday by Circuit Judge G. W. Phelpa to Lela Hardin from Gale. Hardla The plaintiff was represented by At torney Will M. Peterson. Woodmen to Have Big Clam. Pendleton Camp No. 41. W. O. W.. closing its big membership cam. paisn and on the 18th will hold a class initiation. At the present time a class of SS is assured, and this will brinr? the membership up to 425. Another campaign will be started at once, to close during the latter part of Jan uary and it is hoped to bring the mem bership up to 500. John F. Hoyt ' Walla Walla, district manager, will remain to assist in that campaign. Quality Store Hear Killed Near Town. A black bear was killed this morn. Ing about noon by William McCorm maeh a short distance above Havana station eight miles from town. The bear had evidently been driven out of the moun'ains on account of lack of food. It was first noted at the Mc Cormmach ranch by one of the men and the dogs treed the bruin whi'o Mr. McCormmaoh was notified. Mr. McOormmaoh, W. R. Withee and J W. McCormmach went to the farm and the bear was brought to earth by a shot fired by Will McCormmach The animal was brought to town. Would .Wold Conflict of Dates. R. Alexander Is in receipt of a let ter from Edith Toxier Weathered, one of the directors of the state fair ask ing for the dates of the 'Roundup and expressing the hope that they will not conflict with the state fair. They represent that the child Is un der the guardianship of Dr. Edward J. Labbe of Portland who has consented to the adoption. They wish to change its name to Milnor Sanford. Ford Causes Suit. Edith M. Fraker today filed suit against the Round-Up City Auto Co. asking for $450 damages. She al leges the company took possession of a Ford car of the value of $300 be longing to her and converted It to their own uses. A stranger giving the name of J. E. Montgomery-, carrying a suit case laden with juice of the corn, made the mistake yesterday of getting drunk while on a short stay In Pen dleton en route from Salt Lake tn North Takima. He was picked up by the police and, upon the discovery that he was well supplied with liquor, a charge of having liquor in a public Place was filed against him. To this Show Is Enjoyed. A fair sized audience greeted the show "It Pays to Advertise" at the Oregon theater last night. The show was one of the best farces that It has been the pleasure to witness here for some time. The troupe was a well balancd cast and the lines were ludicrous. Pleads Not Guilty. Walter Ogilvy who was arrested last night by Officer Nash on a charge of drunkenness, pleaded not guilty this morning before Judge Fitzgerald In police court His trial has been se. for this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Carl Nelson was fined $10 or given five days in jail for being Intoxicated yesterday. HIGH SCHOOL NEWS The play "The Sophomore" will be given at the high school on Friday night of this week by the high school applied English class. The class la practicing every night under the su pervision of Supt. Park and should be able to put on the play without a hitch. An recommended by the school board the admission price will be made satisfactory to all so that all may attend.
