Directed by MnOowan; Pastime Tuir. day and Wednesday. Life on the rails, with a Punchy, thrilling plot and tense suspense f presented in "The Manager of the B. & A." the newest of the big motion picture dramas featuring daring Helen Holmes. This picture, from the studios of the Signal Film Corporation, and pre sented by the Mutual Film Corpora tion, Is typical of the strenuous works of the director, J, P. McGowan, known to world wide fame as the maker of thrill dramas. In "The Manager of the B. & A." Miss Holmes has the attractive ani interesting role of Constance Emorv, the daughter of an aristocratic father who loses his position as manager of the "B. & A" because of his leisurely and aristocratic viewpoint In l"e, which leads him more regularly to the golf links than to the office. The story has a timely element in it in view of Its dealing with a rail strike in terms of vigorous visualluation. of course there is a strenuous rivalry over the beautiful girl, Constance Emory. There are newspaper compli cations, fights, explosions and deeds of daring and violence without end. Leo Maloney, who will be remem bered for his virile work In 'The Girl and the Game" and for his Bhare in Helen Holmes features previous)! released, comes in for a good share of the glories of "The Manager of the B. & A." He enacts the role of Dan Oakley, a district superintendent who becomes manager of the road through an Incident which g'ves him opportu nity to prove his ability to think rap idly and to act with swift decision. Paul C. Hurst, considerable success as a screen villain, has a role as Roger Oakley, father of Dan, wh'ch gives hira rare opportunities for the depic tion of heroism. 'The Manager of the B. 1- A.'' builds its climaxes rapidly and delivers its surprises with swift, sure effect. IJve of 1 jfe and Measure Leads t-i IJfe of mhapphwss aad Misery.
