Activity among the southwestern Oregon mines was never so great's now, the product now taking the place of ores formerly shipped from Now Caledo nia, Australia, to the steel mills via New Tork. R. B. Miller, vice president of the Twohy Pros. Company, returned to day from Grants Pass, where he has been for several weeks. Mr. Miller said that from his observation the southern Oregon mining region is the only one in the northwest that is profiting directly from the European war. Mr. Miller would not discuss the re ported resumption of railroad exten sion work on the California A Ore gon Coast railway between Grants Pass and .Crescent City, Cal. Ha stated that definite decision as to building the line on the coast has not been reached. This line is now oper ating profitably for about 16 miles between Grants Pass and Waters creek, to which point the ore Is haul ed by wagon from the mines. Copper from the Queen of Bronze and Waldo mines and the other prop erties in the district is being sent to Tacoma and the California smelters. Mr. Miller looks for a continuance of the present great activities and even more Intensive development than is now under way. Judge John Twohy and his son, Robert Twohy, have been carrying on negotiations for the extension of the rail line which would open 'up the mines on a larger and more perma" nent scale. Mo., Dewey Mitchell nnd Frank Lowder went to "Charlie' barber shop" at 1705 Market street today. They told about It later at Central district police station. Mitchell said he asked for a shave, but the barber ran something over his head and face which tickled him until he saw the bill, which listed his Indebtedness at 91.76. The barber explained that this was not exorbitant as he had had an electric shampoo and an electric face massage. The barber who waited on Lowder charg ed him only 60 cents, Lowder said, explaining that Lowder had had a massage. Mitchell sail he induced his barber to refund 50 cents of the charge but after leaving the shop he missed a 12 bill from his pocket.
