But "a nation ing whatever for the trainmen j of personalities needs indivi- UUUULUIg OVUVViO f vllvl VlVl V reduction is needed in the size of the classes in the elementary schools. No class in an elemen tary school, according to the professor, should be allowed to contain more than thirty chil dren, while for very young chil dren the number should not ex ceed ten or twelve. The limit of thirty children in a class al ready is enforced by the gov ernment in the case of second ary schools. The professor al so insists that there should be liberal advances in the present rates of the salaries and super annuation allowances. and is really inimical to their interests, etc., etc. This claim is made on the assumption the president is a hidden enemy of labor, or something of that sort. Ridiculous as it may appear the foregoing is a truthful pre sentation of the position taken by partisan critics of the presi dent. Mr. Hughes included. On one hand an appeal is made to capital that the president is pro-labor; on the other hand labor is told that Wilson is not their friend. The G. O. P. ef fort is to play both ends of the game against the middle; to chase with the hounds and run with the hares. Their insincer ity is so manifest as to make the thing a joke. Then friends of both parties rushed In and separated them. Immediate-! ly after the unpleasantness both ot 1 the interested parties shook hands' and exonerated each other from all blame. Official state department advices today re port seizure of the Dutch steamer Prinz Hendrlk by German warships do not say on what charge Isudor I' lak, a naturalized American, was re- j moved from the vessel and held. Thej j department is investigating. j Much significance is attached by of-j ; ficiaLs to Germany's seizure of mall aboard the steamer. Some time ago! 'Germany claimed the right to censor j letter mail on the Basis that The Hague convention, declaring the "in ; violablli'y" of such mail, had been ' rendered inoperative iiy failure of aev- -I eral of the belligerent nations to rati ! fy it, but more recently the practice ; apparently had been discontinued. ! This renewal is taknn to show thai I the Teutonic powers are acting on much the same principles as the al lies, both in diverting neutral ships i to belligerent ports and in taking oif t'irct class mail. j EDUCATIONAL METHODS w f;.'hir comes home, -liould rhwr him you ie bring yu n, d- from th- Id ot-i.l ' li i-r n li.- iii : be s i,,.
