It is an arraignment not of the men alono. but of the girld themselves who Sacrifice their honor for the attainment or earthly success. Phyllis Page, in the story, reaps a re ward from her sacrifice she attains distinction as a portrait painter but when true love 0'es come she finds it obstructed by memories ot the past "No matter how. small the price demanded for wrong-doing, it is too high!"
