CNBIEACHEn SPREAD, Every woman likes to own a hand made spread, but the majority of spreads call for such expensive mate rials that few women can afford to indulge In the luxury. However, here is a spread which Is within almost ev ery' woman's reach. It can be dupli cateti tor about J5. The spread Is made of unbleached muslin. All over its surface conventional scrolls KM outlined by means of huge French knots. On the spread In question white knots are used, hut there Is no reason w hy one could not ue colored cotton to carry out the color scheme employed In one's bedroom. The edge of the spread is finished with cotton fringe. In place of a qulltrof party why not have a spread party? The work will then be quickly and pleasantly done. ABOIT STEAKS. Two inches is the accepted thick ness for the fancy porterhouse or i loin steak. The meat should be firm and fine, and a bit of fat Is necessary. Otherwise, when cook puts it over to broil she will have to dot the broiler with perfectly good butter, so It Is cheaper to buy a good steak In the beginning. A clever treatment for steaks which are Inclined to be tough Is to score them with a knife a sharp curving knife and pour over them a bit ot lemon Juice an hour or two before cooking. This helps to render the tough fiber tender if mortal hand can. accomplish the impossible like this. t'ltl IT PI M il Three cups lemon Juice. .1 cups or ange Juice. 3 lbs. granulated sugar 1 qt. can pineapple or 1 basket strawberries or any other sliced fruit. 1 cup grape juice, s pints water.
