liam Hanley of Burns, candidate ot
the progressive party for United
States senator in 19U and known far
and near as the "sage of Harney coun
ty," announced today that he intend
ed to support v igoronsly President
Woodrow Wilson for re-election.
At this period in the history' othe
world and this nation particularly,
he said, President Wilson is most
ideal and opportune and by all means
should be reelected.
On the other hand Mr. Hanley char
acterizes Charles E. Hughes, the re
publican nominee, as the "Parker of
the republican party."

Perkins to Mr. Hughes.
"Mr. Hughes is not a necessity," de
clared Mr. Hanley, who is In town
today. "He is only a proposal to dis

"Woodrow Wilson Is a quiet, hon
est, sincere, scientific and well edu
cated political scientist, and in the

"Personally I am going to support
him to the best of my ability."
