chance.' following her return here
from Philadelphia to face a charge
of theft, brought unexpected results.
Dr. Howard Holden, a beauty spec
ialist, stepped forward as the 17-year-old
girl was arraigned. "I am pre
pared to adopt the young woman." he
said, "if she consents and the court
approves." Miss Murphy informed
the court of her willingness.

to the home of his parents in Hous

ward, a boy. who has made good since

George F. Sohmidd. cook at a logging
camp of the Oregon Lumber Com
pany on the headquarters of the west
fork of Hood River, was seriously, if
not fatally, injured when he fell 20
feet from the top of a flume to a heap
of Jagged stones. The cook was tak
ing a message to members of the
wood crew and was crossing a ravine
on the flume, by a short cut
Schmidd was rushed to a local hos
pital. He is suffering from internal
injuries.
