abroad, the local wheat trade i

PORTLAND, Ore., June 13. "Cali
fornia might as well learn now as la
ter that this state proposed to protect
its fruit and vegetable Industries, no
matter how much the southern Inter
ests kick."
This statement was made during the
day by State Inspector J. E. Stansber
ry, whose attention has been called
on numerous occasions to threats
made by the Californlans as to what
they would do with the products in
this state if officials here dared to en
force existing laws ror the protection
of farm industries.
"I find." said Mr. Stansberry, "that
the potato men of the south who were
complaining most bitterly of the as

the Oregon state board of horticulture

another. We have been very lenient
with the California Interests, but do
not propose to have them dictate to us
by threats or otherwise what we shall
' do for the protection of our farm in
dustries. "We are going to treat the Califor

them run this state "
