The progressives recommended fur
ther meetings. Smoot read the follow
ing report to the republicans:
"Your committee has met the con
ference committee consisting of
Messrs Perkins, Johnson, Bonaparte,
Wilkinson and Parker. The confer
ence was frank and free and most I
friendly. The conferees were of one
mind, believing that the good of the
country, and perhaps its repute and
influence lor years to come, depe.nl

firmly believing in the policies of the;
republican and progressive parties
