PORTLAND, ore.. June 10 In its monthly letter, the First National' bank of Boston reports the wool mar-j ket as follows: The consumption or wool goes on without any apparent abatement, and in suite of heavy purchases already I made by the manufacturers, they still need to cover on raw material, with Ihe result that the market keeps fair-; ly active, although considerably less so than a month or two ago. The lessened activity however. Is unques tionably due in some measure to the; limited supplies of desirable wools. Hood wools have been transferred to' consumers almost as fast as received, , iiut receipts of foreign wool are de creasing, while domestic arrivals ot the new clip are only Just beginning. During the month of April there was Imported at Boston not quite 23,0OO,- 000 ponds of foreign clothing Wool, compared with 27,000.000 pounds in March; 40,000,000 pounds in Febru ary and 3. 000,000 pounds in January For the four months the total receipts of classes 1 and 2 wools were 129, 000,000 pounds against 86,000,000 pounds lor the same period in 1915. While the figures for the entire coun try over this period are not available yet, the proportions will doubtless be about the same as for Boston. For the first two months of the year Im ports of foreign clothing wool were 111, 000. ooo pounds against . only 23, 000. 000 last year and .17, 000, 000 In 1914. whereas In other years the Im- uorts have continued fairly stcuiiv throughout the year because of re-ex ports hither from Great Britain and the continent, the prospects this year are for steadily diminishing receipts until late next fall Recently Great Britain has reiterated her Intention ol retaining her stocks of clothing wools for a further indefinite period Do mestic wool receipts here this year from January 1 to the first of thli compared with (1,900,000 pounds last year. Shipments from Boston according to the railroad returns show a de crease, being 34.000,000 pounds for April compared with 40,000,000 pounds for March The April figure.; however, is stlil above the normal.' this year total shipments from Boston were 137,00,000 pounds, contrasted with 86.000,000 pounds In 1915. These heavy shipments have been added to heavy" beddings by the manufacturers. on January 1. Activity in the purchase of the new tlip in the west is increasing some what in the "territories." Prices have changed little during the month eith er in the east or west, although the tendency has been upward Values advanced sharply in London towards the close of the lust series.
