Henry W Longfellow THE ROSE QUEEN rvVHILE it has no particu lar significance in the upbuilding of the city, the fact that a Pendleton maid and a Pendleton man are this week presiding over Portland's annual Rose Festival, by vir tue of having won the honor in fair and open competition with the rest of the state, is a matter cf no small pride to the average Pendletonian. The election of Queen Muri el is not the greatest of Pen dleton's civic achievements by any means but it is one not without its value. It demon strates again to the state and northwest that Pendleton is a live, wide-awake, "go-get-'em" city that is forever starting something and never starting anything that it cannot finish with credit. It furnishes more of the abundant proof that the home of the Round-Up has a right to boast the title "The biggest city of its size in the world." It gives Pendleton more prominent advertising and incidentally attracts no lit tle attention to the forthcoming Round-Up. Moreover, Portland cannot but appreciate Pendleton's sending of a queen and king and hundreds of people to her festival, and must feel that this city recognizes the splendid support and patronage given by Portland to the Round-Up evfr since its inception. Queen Muriel on the rose throne will strengthen the tie between the metropolis of Oregon and the metropolis of eastern Oregon and therefore, her honor will not be a barren one. Ing live the queen.
