TEN PACWB PAGE ax DAILY EAST 0REG0N1AN, PENDLETON, OREGON, WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, 1916 Vote YES for the ROAD BONDS Here are the figures of the actu al cost. Figure it out for yourself or ask any banker in Pendleton or any where if the figures are not correct COST ACTUALLY LESS THAN NOW PAYING. Umatilla County is raising $128, 000 in road taxes this year, which is practically wasted. TAXES WILL NOT BE IN CREASED On each $1000 the bond tax is only 90 cents for the first four years, figured on assessed valua tion of county at $49,000,000, As valuation increases this rate de creases. NOW IS IDEAL TIME TO SELL BONDS. Ask your banker what he thinks about the bond market at present. He will tell you that 4 per cent bonds can be sold easily. Study This Carefully The following chart shows the amounts necessary to be paid, year by year, to retire the proposed bonds In fifteen years; It also shows the annual tax levy for each year necessary to raise the required amounts. The levy is figured on the present valuation of the county, $49,000,000. At the valuation of the county Increases this levy is reduced. On the present valuation the average tax is only 12.04 per $1000 and the present road tax is about $2 33 per $1000. Before the bonds are retired the levy will be under 2 mills, while under the present system of road building the levy Is gradually increasing and at the end of fifteen years would be as high or higher than the bond levy with nothing to show for the money which had been spent during that time. Study this matter carefully for yourself and you will be convinced that by voting the bonds you will get good roads, hard surfaced, reduce the present waste of practically $100,000 a year which goes toward maintenance of dirt roada and con struction of a poor macadam without an Increase of one cent In taxes. The bonds will not Increase taxes, nor the cost of living, but will Insure hard surfacing of the main trunk roads. The money is to be expended by the County Court and the books are audited by the State Accountants Use your own judgment, your own intelligence and then say whether or not it is good business to continue wasting $100,000 a year In maintaining poor roads or use the same money in building good roads. Every consumer in the countj pays the taxes and is a taxpayer just as much of a taxpayer as the big landed proprietor and property owner who is now howling that be cause your name is not on the as sessment roll you should not be al lowed to vote on this bond issue. YOU PAY MORE IN PROPOR TION Than they do for you pay from the nickles and dimes that you earn by the sweat of your brow while they pay on from a big surplus which A BOUNTIFUL NATURE PRO VIDES FOR THEM. The cause of good roads is the cause of the home, the fireside and the rural life of the community. THE LABORER GETS THE LION'S SHARE of the bond issue and the laborer is the real creator of all wealth. $800,000 for labor in Umatilla County and you get the roads and the money they cost. Vote Yes for good roads, school houses, churches, rural homes and improved rural conditions. Rheumatism is a condition of the body when acids and other deposits of Impurities are ac tually "ttelng tip" the strands of muscles In your body, or strangling the nerves and thus producing the awful shooting pains of sciatica, luinbugo, etc. Aedlcal authorities agree that thoxe acid deposits are carried and deposited by the blood in the various parts of the body. It stands to reason, therefore, that local appli cations such as rubbing with so-called remedies can't do any permanent good. At best they can relieve the pain a little and only for a little while. The only way to effect a real cure is to attack the real cause the blood. It is cleansed from the troublesome deposits by 8. 3. 3., the reliable blood purifier that is now easing the pains and healing the tils of the third generation. 8. 8. S. "goes after" the impurities in the blood as relentlessly, as eagerly and as thoroughly as a ferret goes after rats; pursuing (he poison Into every vein and artery, Into every nook and corner ot the body, and chasing the troublesome substances out of tho system. The blood thus cleansed, carries off the acid and other Injurious deposits and "filters' them out of the body through the kidneys. S. 3. 8. is not a drug. It Is a purely vegetable blood purifier. You can net 8. 8. 3. at every drug store. But if in addition you should I:ke to have the advice of the doctors in charge of our laboratory, do not iif .ii atR to write us.
