Cattle Famine Threatened in Country
Situation Acute
in United States
PORTLAND, Ore., May 10 Latest!
reports received from leading cattle
producing centers of tne country Indl-!
cate a serious condition ao far as sup-
pile are concerned. With heavy ex
porlntiona of beef to Europe and with
a fast decreasing supply of cattle in;
thia country, the outlook Is seemingly ,
for u famine In meats such aa thH,
country has never witnessed.
This has called forth comment from
consuming and butchering Interests to i
the effect thnt the government should
place an emburgo against further for
eign shipments until the American
supplies become heavier.
Such agitation is likely to become
stronger as the price of beef on the
hoof advances ami the price to the
consumer moves higher. The recent
advance in the price of baliy beef at
Nurth Portland to the highest price
on record here for open market tran
sactions Indicate quite clearly that
there is a dearth of real good quality,
and that killers are v:elng with one
! another to secure these supplies. This
i means not only extreme prices for top
quality stuff, but also means that all
beef prrices will he advanced in pro
portion In the Pacific northwest the de
crease In cattle holdings has been less
marked than In other sections of the
Country, but the withdrawal of sup
plies for eastern .shipment has made
the shortage here even more acute
than elsewhere.

report showing less crop damage than
expected. The trade Is much Inclined
to take this report with a grain of salt,

TO DARKEN HAIR
APPLY SAGE TEA
LOOK young: bring BACK ITS
NATURAL COLOR, GLOSS AND
ATTRACTIVENESS.
Common garden sage brewed Into
a heavy tea with sulphur added, will
turn gray, streaked and faded hair
beautifully dark and luxuriant. Just
a few applications win prove a reve
lation if your hair is fading, streaked
or gray. Mixing the Sage Tea and)
Sulphur recipe at home, though, la
troublesome. An easier way Is to get
a 50-cent bottle of Wyeth's Sage and
Sulphur Compound ai any drug atora
all ready for use. This is the old
time recipe improved by the addition
of other ingredients.
While wispy, gray, faded hair In
not sinful, we all desire to retain our
youthful appearance and attractive
ness. By darkening your hair with
Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur compound
no one can tell, because it does it so
naturally, so evenly. You just damp
en a sponge or soft brush with tt and
draw this through your hair, taking
one small strand at a time; by morn
ing all gray hairs have disappeared,
and after another application or two.
your hair becomes beautifully dark,
glossy, soft and luxuriant.
This preparation is a delightful
toilet requisite and is not intended for
the cure, mitigation or prevention of
disease.
