The hog market was generally of steady change from the previous six days. While a small amount of busi ness was done early in the week at $9.20. the general market for extreme quality ruled closer to $99.05 most of the time. One of the recent features of the trade here is the fact that the Wil lamette valley Is coming to the front as a producer of some of the best quality hogs in the country. A few years ago practically the only hogs that appeared from the valley wero the long snoted stuff of very Inferior quality which sold generally about $1 below the tops. Complaints were also re ceived from Oklahoma, Nebraska and Indiana. Statistics were of an unin fluential character, although export clearances were large at well over the million bushel mark. Notwithstanding the strong bull feeling in wheat corn showed only a nominal sympathetic advance, and closed with only fractional gains over last night. There was little in the news budget to encourage conserva tive operations, receipts were larger at 942,000 bushels, against shipments of 680,000 bushels; higher tempera tures over the belt were construed as favorable to promote growth of the crop, and practically no talk of ad verse conditions is heard. It became apparent early in the session that oats was to enjoy a fair upturn under the influence of a broad export demand, which, from all indi cations, has entered the market. This condition, coupled with the tight po sition existing In the cash option, In duced the trade to believe that the buying side would be the most logi cal for time being, at least. Bullish sentiment seems to predo minate in hog products, and notwith standing that market has enjoyed a substantial upturn recently, there is little prospect for other than profit taking setbacks at this time. Among the sales in territory wool dur ing the week were 1,000,000 pounds Wyoming at private terms, 2,000,000 pounds Montana in original bags at 29 to 31 1-2 cents. Several lots of fine medium sold on a clean basis of 71 to 76 cents. Fine staple went as high as 80 and 83 cents. In Wyoming a clip of 400,000 pounds was bought by a local house at 3d to 31 1-2 cents. Medium clips are being bought in eastern Oregon and western Idaho at 38 to 30 cents On the Utsh-Colorado border 32 to 25 cents has been paid for medium wools.
