Ostensibly to keep in practice and to prevent the rains from flooding their tents during the rainy season which is approaching, the American troops at Oolonla Dublan, are "dig ging In." This la the military term for digging trenches. With the river at their backs, they have formed en trenchments on three sides of the Mor mon colony at Colonla Dublan, and Nance O'NciJ In Souls In Bondage." The moat powerfully appealing and morally uplifting story of the new year Is embodied in Daniel Carson Goodman's "Souls in Bondage" which presents Mis Nance O'Neil and a powerful supporting company. Con ceded by press and public to be one of the greatest emotional actresses of the present generation, Nance O'Neil again proves her right to that title by her acting in this drama of the screen. It Is no easy matter to provide suitable material for the proper expression of Miss O'Neil's manifold talents, but In Souls in Bondage,'- Dr. Goodman has furnished her with a vital human story which Miss O'Neil declares to be the superior of any feature photo play In which she has yet appeared "Souls in Bondage" has a straight line story of tremendous heart Inter est which will make profound Impres sion on all who see this wonderful picture and by reason or Its great hu manity which Miss O'Neil so spendld ly emphasizes, the story will be bene ficial to all teaching as It does the great lesson of self sacrifice once taught by the Man of Gallllee. Loyal to the end, and unshaken in her love for her younger sister, Nance O'Neil registers in "Souls In Bondage" the final triumph of a tortured soul. In addition, Rose Melville, the or iginal Sis Hopkins, in "A Leap Year Wooing." ALTA Sl"NI)AY. Oat of the Drifts,'' Thrilling Alpine Drama: Famous players Produc tion Stars Exquisite Marguerite dark. Marguerite Clark, the exquisite lit tle Famous Players star, has been seen in many different characters but she has never done anything more absorb ingly Interesting snd more thoroughly sympathetic than Elsie, the delightful little Alpine shepherdess In "Out of the Drifts," which Is the next Para mount Picture at the Alta theater. "Out of the Drifts" is a big story of the great Alps and of the everlasting snows in which this superb little star is seen battling not only for life itself against' the elements but to save her self from a young rogue with whom a great avalanche hao penned her In a deserted cabin. We have laughed and cried with Marguerite Clark In many funny and some touching sit uations, but in this story she gives us something entirely new the fearless- unspoiled girl of the mountains whose simple trust In mankind and her Maker steels her courage in time of peril and wins our heartfelt sympa they in moments of distress. IIOOIXM) ANN" WAS READY FOR A BITMJUAR And It wasn't Her Fault If SomoboH Else Got In tlie Way When she Fired. With all the talk of national pre paredness, how many women are there In the United States who know how to handle a gun? This pertinent question U presented in "Hoodoo Ann," a new Triangle-Fine Arts re lease. It is brought up, In the picture. by a preparedness campaign resulting from a burglar scare In the little town of Meadowdale. . Ann determines lo learn how to use a gun, so she will know what to do if a burglar enters the househod of which she is a memoer. Like many another woman, she is afraid of the weapon when first it comes into her hands, and Is more particular about getting the awful noise over than about where she aims. Consequently. Ann's preparedness plan bids fair to be more tragic than the possible in trusion of a second -story man. Looking out of the window to find the outcome of her random shot, she sees a man stretched on the floor in an adjoining house. Sure she has kill ed him, she hides. Iater. finding that the man's wife is accused of his mur der, she comes forth and confesses guilt. But her confession is repudi ated when the supposedly dead man Interrupts trial proceedings by walk ing Into court and declaring himself very much alive. Temple Sunday and Monday.
