Florence Rockwell, who is starring
in the Pallas Picture production "He
Fell In Love With His Wife," had a
very hazardous experience while en
acting the scenes In the rain storm
at night.
The exertion required to brave the
fury of the tempest proved too much
for a woman's strength and MUw
Rockwell fainted from exhaustion.
As Alida Armstrong, she discovers
the long concealed duplicity of her
husband and the mental blow unbal
ances her mind.
Bareheaded and without wraps, she
flees into the night, into the worst of
a terrific tempest The storm is awe
inspiring in the tornado-like force of
the wind, that drives the rain in tor
rents down the streets and sweeping
around the corners blows umbrellas
inside out; carries hats and awnings
away; rocks the street lamps; and
drives the patrolman in oilskins, who
cannot make headway against the
storm, into the shelter of the apart
ment house hallway. These storm
scenes stand unsurpassed by any for.
elgn or American productions. This
feature will be shown at the Alta The
ater today and tomorrow.
At the Temple.
Mary Boland, for a number of
years one of the leading Frohman
stars of the legitimate stage, will be
seen on the screen of the Temple to
day and tomorrow in the new Equit
able feature, "The Price of Happi
ness. "
The story of this big picture deals
In a novel and startling dramatis
manner with a theme that Is perhaps
beat expressed in the commandment
"Thou Shalt Not Covet Try Neighbor's
Goods." The heroine of the story
discovers In a series of intense sit
uations that the supposedly mors for
tunate lot of her former girl friends,
whom she had envied, la an illusion,
and that her own simpler life is the
happier one.
Miss Boland has a role that enable
her to give to the screen the fnll ex
pression of her unique dramatic gifts
and personal charm. She la support
ed by a brilliant cast. Including Marl
on Singer. Enid Francis, Carlotta Da
Felice, Albert Bechtel, Dave Wall and
Adolphe Majou.
Can a woman play vampire parts
on the screen or stage and retain h r
self-respect? This question is often
asked. At last it is answered, and it
la answered by one who should know I
Theda Bara. star of the William Fox I
production, "Gold and the Woman"
Miss Bara declares that vampire act
ing and a regard for Christian ideals
call It self-respect or what you will!
are not incompatable. She treats
the subject of sex pictures In a rc-1
fresh tngly frank way.
"Why should any one declaim;
against the so-called sex drama!" de
mands Miss Bara. "Sex is the most
vital Influence in life. From the time
a person is born into the world he is
constantly under the influence of sex
When I use the word 'sex' I use it
in its true sense, which is its best
sense. Most people give tq the word
'sex' a false meaning.
"In photoplay acting, not descrip
tion, Is the great desiredatum. With
out action no photoplay can be worth '
while. Pray, how is action to be in
jected into a picture if sex is Ignored 7
SUDiiose a man robs a bank. Isn't
there usually a woman behind it? sup
pose a man commits murder. Isn't
a woman usually behind that also? of
course there la, and now we are back
again to sex.
"Thorp are bad women Just the
same as there are bad men Is there
any reason that the bad woman shoul 1
not be shown on the screen, so that
some one may profit by seeing what
havoc she can cause? I can find no
reason."
Sec this great vampire play today
at the Pastime.
In addition, Anita Stewart and Earle
Williams will be presented in their
