William Stanley, arrested last week on a charge of horse stealing, was ar raigned this morning before Justice of the Peace Parkes and held undef $600 bonds. Two Dmnk Ones. Change of Conductors. Gus Bertholet, popular X. P. con ductor who has been running between here and Pasco on the passenger run for years, brouaht the train Into Pen dleton his last time this morning. To morrow he will be succeeded b W. H. Smith, veteran conductor who has had the Pasco-Walla Walla run for a long time. Mr. Bertholet will take a short trip to Spokane after which he expects to take the freight run be tween here and Pasco though he may take the Paseo-Dayton passenger run, sinsher Hies for Office William Slushe'r of Nolln who an nounced his candidacy fur the repub lican nomination for county commis sioner. Gets Improvement Contract. S. Rugo & Co. today secured the contract for building a cement side walk and retaining wall along tho John Todd property on East Court street. This Is a part of a five block Improvement being made on east court. Many coyote Scalps. Johnson Barnart, an Indian, Satur day presented to the county clerk for bounty 51 coyote hides and all but four were from grown animals. L. B. Green, a ranger from Lookout Mountain, brought down 11 coyote hides and one bobcat hide. Miss Preston, principal of the Annie Wright Seminary, Tacoma, Washing ton, is stopping at the Hotel Pendle ton. Circuit court convened this morn ing In the annual spring term with the civil case of Herbert Dahlen vs. O. A. Hobbs et al as the first case for trial. Yesterday Fred Griepenstroh of Burns, a patient at the Eastern Ore gon State Hospltsl and who has beer, a trustle then for some time, decided he had had enough of the Institution and rame up town. Suspecting he was an escaped patient. Chief Clerk Roscoe Vatighan called up the hos pital and three guard, were sent for the man He put up a stout resist ance and had to be handcuffed.
