With the town of Turner divided
Into two factions for the last two
years as the result of a bitter con
troversy over the installation of a
city water system, the clash Saturday
night la declared to be merely the cul
mination of the feud which has been
growing more tense ever since the
faction known as the "wets" won in
the courts over the "drys."
The battle, resulting in three men
being dangerously stabbed and at least
20 others sustaining severe cuts or
bruises, has only server to accentuate I
the bitterness heretofore' existing, and I
further trouble Is not unexpected.
Apparently in fear of bodily harm I

A group of Pendleton high school
boys fared forth Saturday evening to
play a prank at the expense of th
Phoenix Club and fate managed their
expedition in such a manner that they
became the butt of their own prank
The Phoenix Club of young ladiei
went out to the James Thompson
ranch to hold their initiation. The
boys, learning of the trip, secured an
auto and followed, bent on mischief
They passed the Thompson ranch at
full speed and soon returned with
lights out. However, Jim Thompson
and his two men. Bill Jones and Arle
White were on the lookout. No soon
er had they left their car than the
three men seixed it and steered it to
a hiding place. Later they succeeded
in capturing Tom Murphy, one of the
boys, and made him a prisoner of war
under heavy 'guard. The others suc
ceeded in locating the auto and hur
ried hack to ton"for reinforcements
They returned to the ranch about
midnight to rescue their comrade, a
venture In which they were unsuccess
ful. The girls carried on their In tla
tion unmolested and Murphy was heli!
until yesterday morning when he was
permitted to return home.
