STOP! LOOK? LISTEN? GOVERNMENT MEAT INSPECTED THE OREGON MARKET caters to the homes in Pendleton who want pure meat, and who want to know that it is pure. We have built our splendid business on past dealing and gained an enviable reputation by giving WHOLESOME QUALITY and PLEASING QUANTITY ALWAYS. What Is Government Inspected Meat-the kind we sell? All meat that we sell bearing the U. S. government in spection stamp comes from a plant where the United States government maintains, at their own expense, com petent, qualified, veterinary surgeons who have absolute supervision and control of all meat shipped from that plant. They allow nothing to pass but what is pure and wholesome. Every carcass killed and going out to the consumer is examined thoroughly the dressed meat, entrals, glands, the dipping room operations, the cured meats, lard and sausages. If there is the slightest indication of contami nation, infection or disease, it is ordered destroyed by the tanking process, and they see that their orders are carried out This makes it impossible for this plant's retailers to receive a piece of impure meat. This inspection, and the inspectors in charge, con trolled entirely by the government and is absolutely inde pendent of the management of the plant. Not a single product is allowed by the government to be sold from the packing plant without being examined thoroughly. It must be pure and healthy to receive the government inspection stamp, and if it bears this stamp it IS pure; Nothing is TOO GOOD for OUR customers. We are the home in Pendleton of government inspected meats. Think what this kind of meat our kind-means to the health of your family-and it costs no more. If the question had been allowed to be discussed and put ralrly on its merits of a bond Issue or a millage tax, a millage tax would have car ried. There seemed to be so much dissat isfaction over the other two meetings, especially in the west end where they thought they should have more than the 1800.000 allowed them by Mr. Ra le v. That the president called an other meeting March tl at the court house to go over the whole matter and hear all complaints and see if we nniiiri nnt set together, etc. There was a good attendance at this meeting from all over the county and again a majority of the good roads execu tive board tried to get a vote of the delegates as to whether they favored the bond Issue, and the question was put fairly by Senator Barrett and seconded by W. W. Harrah, to vote for or against bonding the county, and CASTOR I A For Infanta and Children In Use For Over 30 Years Always bears the Signature of the chairman ruled it out of order, on the grounds that tnat question had been passed at a previous meeting of the Commercial club. Now, this commercial club meeting was not a delegated meeting. Nor was it a board meeting. Nor was it announced by any one that we would vote on a bonding issue and yet it was voted there, and the president. Mr, Robinson, so recognized it and would not allow It to be reconsider ed. An appeal from the cnalr's decision was made to the house and the chair, man ruled that out of order and would not put the question. Mr. Barrett should have put the not hear very good, and being ruled out of order and another speaker recog nised, we failed to get a vote again, which I am sure would have carried two to one against bonding the coun ty for trunk highways, mostly paral leling railroads Later It was voted to place a mlll nge tax on the ballot, the vote being 38 to 14 favoring the millage tax. Thus showing that a large majority present 2 to 1 favored the millage tax. The Good Roads Association, tho old Good Roads Association, the drain Growers' Association, the Far mers' I'nlon, and a majority of the taxpayers and consumers, are oppos ed to bonding the county in favor of the towns and the Warren Construc tion Company The above company is furnishing tho dough and the dope for this campaign, circulating the pe titions and highllfelng the press and every cheap skate that can be touch ed by the blthullthlc dope stick. 1 could be arrested for what I think of such a campaign. But money makes the mare go and the voters will have to register and protect themselves. Respectfully submitted, W. W. HARRAH Mob Horsewhips Doctor. MATTOON, 111.. March 31. Dr. W. C, Kinierj. of Allenville, 12 miles from here, was severely horsewhipped by a mob. The chastisement was a substitute for a lynching which some of the mob demanded In retaliation for the physician's alleged abuse of his wife. The story which inflamed the mob was that Dr. K mery went home in toxicated and attacked his wife, who was ill of pneumonia. She is said to have crawled under the bed. but was driven out by a stove poker and wa ter. Mrs. Kiniery is in a hospital, her face and body badly swollen. Klmery has been arrested. Mr. Baillie testified that the ac counts of the E. W. Backus Lumber Company balanced correctly, but maintained that the transactions re corded were Improper. The sum of 135,000 drawn from the mine tress. ury shortly after the organization of the mine corporation was especially attacked by the plaintiff's lawyers, who contended that the purchase price of the mine, 880,000 paid by the lumber company.
