Cruikshank of this city, who has just reported on travels of 4000 miles through the region, so abundant is the game that the construction trains of the Grand Trunk Pacific railway on which he traveled killed several moose, and shooting ana fishing from private cars on sidings of the new line will, he says, afford prolific game. Caribou, red deer, bear and ptarmigan have returned to old haunts from which they were scatter ed by the construction crews. "The waters are alive witn gigantic brook trout and black salmon trout, some attaining the size of So pounds," Mr. Cruikshank says in his report. Sew ing machines and taixing machines and talking machines which play "There'll Be a Hot Time" even as far north as the Hudson Bay district, were novel features of his long trip by canoe, freight caboose and gaso line speeder from the Mushoka lakes to Winnipeg by way of Hudson Bay. His report adds. "ADout one hun dred miles east of Cochrane begins, and continues as far as Graham, one of the finest sporting regions on the American continent. There are big rivers affording canoe cruises to Hudson Bay or circular trip coming back to the railroad, thousands of teautiful lakes through which cruises can be made in almost every direc tion. The land Is dry and rocky, there Is ample timber to satisfy the sports man if not the lumberman, much rolling counthy occurs, moose, deer and bear are plentiful, considerable caribou are found, and almost this entire region is the breeding ground of the greatest brook trout found on the continent the Niplgon red-spotted, square-tailed brook trout." Miss Marguret Wilson, daughter of the president, la the leader In an ag gressive new movement that demands school house forum, and she has fol lowed up the work recently inaug urated In Washington. Miss Wilson's work may have a tendency to nationalize what at first was a mat ter concerning only the District of : Columbia. She has carried her fight to congress, where a bill Is pending compelling the school hoard to per. mlt the use of the schools for the, parents' meetings. Such a law would! apply only to the city of Washington ! In following up her work in New York City, Miss Wilson is making the Plea that public educational Institu tions win not have fulfilled their mission until the cltltens of the com munities have made them the means of educating them, as well as their children.
