"My Lady's Slipper," In whlrh Anita Stewart and Karle Williams portray the principal roles under the direc tion of Halph Ince. It Is the story of the Uiuls XVI period and the Vi tagraph Company went to consider able expense to create the atmosphere of those times. The costumes and characters are authentic of that pe riod. 1 'My Lady's Slipper" was written by .Cyrus Townsend Brady and Is one of the most Interesting of the many successful novels from his pen. The Vitagraph Company nas spared no expense In making It a veritable screen masterpiece and supporting Miss Stewart and Mr. Williams In the cast are such well known players as Joseph Kilgour. Harry Northrup. William Shea, Julia Swayne Gordon,! George O'Donnell, George Stevens and others. The scenes of "My Lady's Slipper" are laid In and near Paris during the time of Marie Antoinette. The story tells of Francis Burnham, an Amerl can naval officer who escapes from! a British convict ship to make his way! to Paris to see Benjamin Franklin. the Cnlted States minister. While ' walking outside the city's limits he rescues a beautiful girl from high-: waymen. and falls In love with her. Playing cards at a gambling resort.1 Iiurnham becomes indebted to the Marquis de Tremlgnon, who coverts the Countess de Vlllars and forces the American to steal from her boudoir j some article of wearing apparel , Burnham discovers that the countess Is the beautiful girl he rescued from the highwayman and though he takes her slipper he refuses to give it up to the marquis and Is ttirown Into pris on. Word is carried to the countess of his plight and through her Influ ence Burnham Is released and the marquis humiliated. Later the Amer ican and the counters are happily married. "My Lady's Slipper" la the first cos tume play In which Anita Stewart has ever appeared. He meets the father expecting his congratulations on hi engagement to the daughter. He Is not ruffled at all wnen the parent tells him first to get a half interest In his father's business. The eldet Prindle happens to be worked up over Pete's derelictions and gives him $10'J with the offer of the partnership on condition that he gets his picture In the papers. Then the fun starts. The different duets, quartets and quintets are pleasing and beautiful ex amples of harmony. This show will be given tonight for the last time. The j house retained the literacy test in the 1 1 Burnett immigration bill by a vote of I j 225 to 82. The president Is expected to veto the measure because of this j clause.
