which tore a huge hole in her hull at
the port bow. the steamer Twin Cities
of The Dalles Columbia line, began
to sink near the mouth of Port Port
land harbor Saturday night She wa
successfully beached after a struggle,

before continuing on the last lap of
the trip to Portland.
The accident occurred at 8:45 p.
m., and It was unusually dark at the;
time, according to the members of j

master of the steamer, Captain Isnnci
Gray, pilot, and John Hirzlg, who was,
acting as lookout, were all in the pl-
lot house at the time of Ihe accident.

The British liner Minneapolis was
sunk in the Mediterranean last Wed
nesday by a submarine, according to

which has arrived here from Ran
goon. Capfain Blbby reports that while ic
the Mediterranean last Wednesday h'
received a wireless catl for help from
the Mlnenapolls. which said that th
steamer had Just been torpedoed and
was sinking.
The Leicestershire went at full
speed to the assistance of the Minn
eapolis, but arrived too late, the ves
sel hnvlng sunk. The fate of the
crew was not known to Captain Blb
by. The Minneapolis was a steamer "I

1900 at Belfast.
LONDON, March 27 Lloyds re
ports that the British steamship Fen
ny Bridge has been sunk. The crew
has been landed. The Fenny Bridge,
3836 tons. 3S feet long, was built in
Sunderland in 1910.
The British steamer St. Cecelia,
from Portlana, Me., March 11, for
London, has been sunk, according to
a dispatch to Lloyds from Dover. The
crew was saved.
