BAKER. Ore., Sept. 28. One plan
for bringing Baker and Pendleton
will not bear fruit Just now not un
til It rains more In Pendleton, air.
way. That plan is the plan for a se
ries of golf tournaments between the
cluli of the two cities.
Bent upon the Idea, brilliantly
conceived, Isador Fuchs, director of
the Baker Country' club, accompanied
by Hairy Foreman, while In Pendle
lun Saturday, attempted to start the
two city tournament. The hotel
clerk did not even know there was
a golf Hub In the Round-up city. Fi
nall, after a search, ome golfers
were found but could not talk tour
nament because Pendleton's course
was not "usable." r
"Oo see It and you will under
stand," said a golfer.
Anil the Baker emissaries went to
the edge of town to find a "links"
composed of bunch grass, and and
chopped sage brush with weeds for
"greens. " There was no club houso
and no players apparent The place
looked like a lost hope gone to
seed.
Ig th tournament plan died with
out a struggle.
