MAY STORE WATER FOR NAT IN OLD RESERVOIR A pnxAlhle solution of the natatori inn wiiter problem may be found In the use of the old reservoir n a stor- uite place Tor the overflow water when It U not b.-lnK tnken by the MVlrmrtlng pool. A number of the city official have, been considering lhis matter and, while the proper connection may not be made this summer, It is probable that the nc cesjiary work will be done next year. At the present time tlieic in plenty of overflow water In one night to refill the pool If all of it could be taken. However, the pipes feeding the pool are not lurse eiiounii to car ry all of the overflow unci, conse quently, additional water Is necessary the next morning to completely fill the pool The water commission does not feel at liberty to furnish this wa ter directly from the -mains. How ever, If tlie overflow water from the reservoir on the nights when it s not being emptied Into the pool were run into the old reservoir and stored there, It would be available for use in the pool whenever needed. The cost of making the proper connections would not be large. It is believed, in asmuch as the overflow pipe now runs within 40 feet of the old tener- volr. for fuel fone flv. Having made the entire trip from Walla Wall: and Pendleton to San Francisco, a distance of 1000 miles, on low gear and without stopping the motor, the Franklin test car reached Oakland at 4.20 last evening, practi cally terminating Its journey Inas much a.s the ferry must be taken to reach San Francisco. The trip was made in the remarkable time of S2 hours and 10 minutes, the car hav ing left Walla Walla at 6:10 a. m. on Ausust 1. A night letter telling of the suc cessful conclusion of the trip was re ceived this morning by the Pendleton Auto Co., from Manager J. W. Mc Cormmach. The road taken was al most a direct line from Pendleton to San Francisco, the message read", and some fearful roads were "nooun terHi. The roads over the mountains ft om the North Fork of the John Day io Burns were very had. due to the heavy rains which had washed greit holes and left many hili cen tc:s. From Burns south acrosr the desert, the roals were even -voisc! because of stones and sand dunes. B-t spite this fact, the car mad" thg trip ahead of schedule time and Mr. Mi'Cormmach is willing to wager that no other cur than a Franklin can do tie same feat with all. of the gears. So rapid was the journey that the tagcige of the three men, sen: by ".rain from Pendleton the day before he start was made, only beat them into San Francisco one hour and the high and intermediate gears, ship ped by express, had not arrived. Making the trip on low gear is equivalent to two round trips to Oukland on high gear, according to autolsts; In other word to running 4000 miles on high at a speed of 45 to 50 miles an hour. 3 CHH-DltEX PERISH WHEN HOME BI RNS LAKE DELAVEN.
