Stay off the damp ground, avoid

Rheumatism Is caused by poison
ous toxin, called uric acid, which Is
generated In the bowels and absorb

tlon of the kidneys to filter thla acid
from the hlood and cast It out In
the urine. The pores of the skin are
also a mourni of freeing the blood of
this Impurity. In damp and chilly,
cold weather the akin pores are clos
!, thus forcing the kidneys to do
double work, they become weak and
sluggish and fall to eliminate this
uric acid which keeps accumulating

The wedding day had been set a
year ago, and the groom had prom
ised to return all the way from Chi
na, where he was at work on the
construction of a railroad. She had
looked forward to that day with the
same yearning that Is In the heart
of every woman. To her. aa to most
bride, it was to.be the biggest day
of her life.
Then came a cuble that he could
not possibly get closer than Honolulu
on the day set for the wedding. Bui
that didn't daunt an American girl,
and she was not going to have her
dream shattered.
"We will meet him there," she said
to her mother, and before that staid
and untraveled old Indy could be
made to understand, the brlal gown
had been packed In a trunk and the
tickets bought.
But the steamer which neared
Honolulu, on the day of days, was
lute. The dusk had come down over
the harbor when the vessel slowly felt
her way In.
"Will he be here to meet us?" the
molhef Inquired over and over again
anxiously.
And the daughter caught this
doubt. She was outwardly culm, but
n storm broke within. Her nervous
nesB developed Into desperation. Sud'
denly she made up her mind. She
put on tho gown, and then came
forth on the deck In the soft Hawaiian
evening to watch the sights as tho

Some weakness was shown for cat
tle all of the week and values drop

There was an Increase In offering.
More liberal marketing of California
grass stock was one of the factors In
the trade. This together with the
bearlshness of killers added consid
erable depression to the price.

BEARISH TREND
INJURES MARKET
(Sunday's Market.)
FOHTLAXD, Ore. That the bear
lshness in the local wheat trade during
the last few weeks has been entirely
too severe, was indicatd by the trend
of the local market during the week.
Exporting Interests with which pric
ed sales yet to be shipped have been
holding off their purchases until they
could practically buy the wheat at
their own prices. Every possible frac.
tion of a cent has been squeezed out
of the price before the exporters were
willing to do businss.
They overstayed the market a trifle
too long and have been compelled to
pay fractional advances, but some of
their orders are still said to be un
filled. That the bearish demonstration in
prices has been made for the sole pur.
pose of forcing both the old and new
cro, to a low quotation basis, is now
evident. It Is one of the habits of the
trade to sit on the price aa hard as
possible, never seeming to realize that
the time always appears when pro
ducers are forced to withhold offer
Incs from the market as a matter of
self-production. As long as buyers
are so anxious to beat one every pos
sible cent from the price. Just so long
many producers be expected to retali
ate and finding the buyers in a p'nch
force them to pay the price.

EARLY WHEAT
TRADING IS UP
(Sunday's Market.)
CHICAGO. Wheat market main
tained Its strength, the unsettled
weather having its effect on senti
ment. The foreign situation shows
little change and the future trend of
prices will depend to a great extent
on weather conditions. Later the
market showed a slump.
The strength In corn market early
was due entirely to the weather, but
when it was reported tha two cargoes
of Argentine corn had been bought
at the seaboard, sentiment switched
to the bear side. As in wheat the fu
ture course of values In this market
will depend to a great extent on the
v.eather.
Market in oats was a trading affair
nnd showed little independence, be
ing influenced by the course of the
corn market.
Trade featureless in products. Of
