DAILY EAST OREGON. AN. PENDLETON, OREGON. THURSDAY. JUNE 10. 1915. EIGHT PAGES SPOR TS I " Goodyear Passes Goodyear $500,000 Better The improvements lately added to GooJycar lires will cost us $500,000 this year just this year's betterments alone. Our Extras This ha'f-wi'Sion dollars we add to our tire cost means better tires tlun ever. It goes largely into extra rubber. STANDARD OIL COMPANY (C'a'ii' r, a) 1k Standard Oil faKcicr Cars BENKETT AXO OASCOTT FI0HT20 ROUND ORAW AT OREGON THEATER In the fastest and cleanest ring bat tie seen in Pendleton In many a day. Jockey liennett. veteran Pendleton bantam, and Billy Museott of Portland boxed twenty rounds bust evening ut the Oregon theater to a draw. The decision of Keferee Asa Thomson of Echo was one in which the big crowd heartily concurred. The speed, science and punch of tho Portland boy surprised the fans and from the first round, they knew thev were due to get their money's full value. .Mascott, though he has only bad a year's experience In the fistic business, showed a cleverness that made him the match of the game old midget warrior who has fought more battles than most of the fans ever saw. In several rounds, notably the third and fifth, he seemed to have a distinct advantage, landing some tell ing blows but at no time did he have the Jockey In distress. t Hennett fought his usual true, ha.rd, consistent battle. Always he was forcing the fight, advancing continu ally and waiting for an opening. His straight left connected with Mascott's face several times with coslderablo force and the Portland boy's left eye began to puff early in the fight. I Xelther one of the bantams ever stalled. The fight was a fight from beginning to end. Both fighters had a re.spect for the other and took prop er precaution in protecting themselves but at the same time both were always working. By the tenth round It be came apparent that the bout was go ing to end with honors even unless one of the two should slip over a lucky wallop. P.oth tried hard and in the last round they fought desperately in a last effort to secure a deciding ad vantage. However, even then tbe tans were just as much in doubt as to which was the better man as they were in the beginning, and the draw decision was a popular one. l aughing Free-for-all Promoter Farrell staged a prelimi nary that was in itself worth the price of admission. He Introduced three negroes on the stage for a battle roy al and It proved an uproarotis affair. The colored gentlemen were not con sciously putting on a burlesque but they caused more mirth ihan any comic opera show the opera house has seen. Along toward Hie end "Pasco," the active little darkey who has dem onstrated his ability with-the gloves, before, jumped Into the ring and it didn't take him long to put an end I to the affair. The six round semi-windup between Joe Farrell and Jimmy Hays turned out to be a three round go only. Far rell had the other badly outclassed. Hay's willingness being hia only as set. Referee Hyberg put a stop to the bout at the end of the third to save Hays unnecessary and Farrell was given the decision. I '..? 'CjknJ..' : 'I tx x x v.
