PORTLAND, Ore, For the sole carload of hogs that arrived in the North Portland yards over night, bargain hunters would not pay above IT.85, or 15c below what competitive buyers paid for similar quality yesterday. With the outside buyers eliminated from the market, the bargain hunters orrer whatever they please for the supplies. Shippers either were com pelled to accept these lower figures or else feed the supplies at extreme cost. Therefore bargain hunters had their inning. Notwithstanding this beartshness on the part of killers, the local mar' ket continues quite favorable in view of conditions generally throughout the country. The strike among the 1000 pupils of pub lic school No. 20, who refused to at tend school because William S. Max- on, their former principal, failed to be reappointed, collapsed when 13 of the boy strikers were fined $2 each by City Judge Beall. Seven of the lads had spent a night of reflection In Jail and promised to go back to school. Mr. Maxson himself was partly re sponsible for ending the trouble.
