The death of Mr. Jacobs takes
away another of the men who linked!
the present with the past In this coun
ty. He came to this county in the,
early sixties from California, which j
state he had reached In 1858 after j
crossing the plains. His coming to
this section was almost contempor
aneous with the coming of Mose
Goodwin, the owner of the original
townsite of Pendleton. Mr. Jacob's
homestead adjoined the Goodwin I
homestead and when the city begrn
to spread It became Jacob's addition
to Pendleton. -5...
Mr. Jacobs -was for years engagel
extensively In the stock business, run
ning large numbers of cattle and
horses. His old log cabin stood at n
point that Is now a part of East Court
street near the Catholic church, and,
when It burned down, he built him
self another house in the old cotton
wood grove where now Is the block
used for public hitching grounds.
When the Umatilla Indian reservation
was thrown open to white renters. Mr.
Jacobs became the first man to lease
Indian grounds He leased a tract
near where now stands the Pendleton
Roller Mills.
During recent years he had been
farming on Tutuilla creek and had
continued to make his home on his
old farm after selling it to Gilman
Foisom a year ago. He was marriei

Indigestion
Dyspepsia
Dr. Darrin Say That All An
noying Distress of the Stom
ach and Bowels Can Be
Cured. .
Hundreds Have Been Quickly
Relieved and Restored to
Health by Him.
This Specialist Makes No
Charge for Consultation at
the Hotel St. George.
Dr. Darrin says that the various
symptoms of indigestion depend some
v. hat upon the different stages of the
disease and the Individual tempera
ment. Its first warning is a sence of
weight and fullness about the stom
ach after eating, which, continuing
for a time, produces considerable ir
ritation, generally with want of appe
tite, but often a ravenous one; when
in obedience to its calls, an excessive
meal is taken, there is great pain,
sometimes accompanied by vomiting;
when the stomach is empty, the mouth
often fills with clear fluid sometimes
acidlous; at others either insipid or
sweetish. Headache is usually at
tendant, also flatulence or bloating,
accompanied by belching of wind,
causing d'zsiness, heartburn and pal
pitation of the heart; the bowels are
generally constipated, but at times
they are loose, passing portions of
undigested food.
In the more complicated forms of
this disorder the nervous system is
very much Impoverished, causing
great depression of spirits. In time the
lining of the stomach and the Intes
tines become full of Inflammation,
often ulcerates and when cancer ap
pears hope vanishes.
Dr. Darrin for many years made a
specialty of treating all diseases of
the digestive tract, such as acute and
chronic gastritis, catarrh of the stom
ach. Intestinal colic, appendicitis,
dlarrhoet. lysentery. constipation,
piles and all diseases affecting the
liver. So successful Is his method of
treatment, which Is entirely different
from other doctors that nearly every
case is cured. Dr. Darrin has hun
dreds of testimonials on file from
grateful patients whom he has re
stored to perfect health thus substan
tiating the truth and effectiveness of
his treatment.
The Doctor gives free consult. tt'on
and examination to all at his office in
the Hotel St. Oeorge. No one suffer
ing from any complications of the
digestive organs should lose time In
availing themselves of his advice and
services while he Is now In Tendle-ton.
