This map shows "The Bloody An gle" of the great battle now raging In Flanders. The present German attack was ap parently anticipated by the unexpect ed British assault on Hill No. 60, fur ther Bouth (B). Although only a small gain In territory this success was most Important because of the hill's domination of the surrounding territory. The real . German attack came Thursday,' April 22, on the north side of the salient shown by a black line. This onslaught, preceded by the- use of gas bombs, carried them In some plates two miles Into the allies' lines and across the Yser canal, as shown by the slightly shaded area (A). It may be noted that In these three days' fighting the Germans have re duced the area of the allies' salient by fully a third, and they are now In a position to cover the entire remain der by artillery fire. ADVANCE COMES III CHICAGO PIT iQ00!.ES, CHOP SUEY, CIIIIIA DISHES GOEVS KWONC HONG LOW 116 West Alta St., Upitalri,' Phone 433 (Saturday's Market) CHICAGO. Development in the Chicago wheat trade today were somewhat surprising as the deliveries reported before the opening were much larger than expected, showing that considerable wheat must have been transferred quickly and quietly from private to public elevators dur ing the week. The local trade took the selling side at the outset, because of the large deliveries. Offerings seemed to dry up very quickly and when good buying orders came Into the market there was a strong natural upturn from bottom quotations and as the advance of the first hour held up well the short Interests took alarm and In covering gave prices further upturn the last hour. Certain leaders are predicting that thla month certainly must feel the ef fect of any large shipment following the May delivery. Stocks of wheat are decreasing fast in the northwest markets, and now that the property has changed hands here similar re ductions in Chicago stocks may be looked for. Deliveries in the spring wheat mar ket were disappointing. The map over the soft winter, wheat states showed cool, part cloudy, but no need ed rain. No doubt the coming week will see the attent on of the trade di vided between the weather and crop news at home and the progress f the fight to open the Dardanelles. In the face of heavy delivery" of corn leading La Salle street interests took an active buyers' position in the July contracts during the morning and practically dominated the trade to the extent of lifting prices to a higher level. A number of active local lead ers were on the buying side on the ndvance and naturally there was cov ering by local shorts. Sample market ruled l-2(ii3-4c higher. Argentine news continues unfavorable. Following the delivery of 3.000,000 bushels of oats on May contracts, there was an advance from 53 1-4 to 56 3-8c for the month. Cash market was 1-2 lc higher. It Is conceded that the onts delivered today went In to strong hands. Market will no doubt be influenced considerably by weather and crop news next week. While price changes in spot wheat are limited during the week's trade on the Port land Merchants Exchange, the situ ation was generally strong. The report of nearly 3,000.000 bush els exported during the month caus ed some excitement In the trade and forced buying by those who would need supplies within the immediate future.
