N. B. The Stanfield-Pendleton
game of Auril IS was thrown nut ami '
will be played over.
A messy melange of wild pitches,
passed balls, wlerd heaves, errors ot
omission, errors of comisslon, errors
of Judgment and semi-occasional hits,
the whole resulting In Pendleton's
first victory of the season; such was
the game yesterday afternoon at
Round-up Park between the Bucks I
and the Stanfled-Echo Irrigators
The score was S to 2 and never were
stores so queerly made.
"Lefty'1 Schroeder, former Western
Trl-state chucker who was recently
released by the Tacoma Tigers, did
the pitching Job for the locals after
first furnishing the visitors with an
affidavit that he had been returned
to Pendleton seven full days. His
speed and hooks were all too much
for the slugging westenders. One
clean double and three scratch sin
gles were all they could poke out and,
but for one of the most singular com
bination of mishaps right at the ex
treme end of the game, of which
more anon, he would have emerged
with a shutout.
Harlan, the same who humbled the.
Bucks last Sunday and who some five
years ago was wearing a Pendleton
uniform, was in the box for the vis
itors but was hardly as effective as
a week before. He was not hit much
but he was wild and nearly exhaust
ed three catchers He was given mis
erable support .and his own errors
were costly ones. In Justice to the
westend boys, be It said that they
started the game without the serv
ices of one of their best batters,
Charlie Hoskins. He was forced to
tarry in Echo to pay off some sheep
herders and, with S. Markham, did
not arrive until the fifth Inning. The
game was then lost and his coming
was too late.
The most peculiar feature of the
game was the ending. With two men
struck out and one man on by the
walk route, Schroeder struck out the
third man and yet two runs came In
before the final gong was rung. Han-

Our Instruction to the famous editor of the Boston Cooking Sffiool
Magazine were: "Get up a book of recipes of the things people like best.
Find the best way to make and bake each one. Then write it out so plainly
that even an inexperienced housewife can't have a failure."
The Cook'i Book" was the result. Some of the 90 recipes were origi
nated, many of them were improved upon, and all were personally tested by
this best known authority on cooking in America, and she tells so dearly how
she made everything that one cannot go astray. .
While some of the cakes and pastry are elaborate enough for any occasion,
the recipes are aS thoroughly practical and caO for no expensive and unusual
ingredients. In addition to telling how to make them, the book is beautifully
illustrated in colon showing how to arrange and serve the dishes appetizkgry.
More than half a million of The Cook's Book" are now in use in Amer
ican households. Yet the demand is constantly increasing. Many aeod for
two or three at a time to give to friends or young house
keepers. Donjt depend on borrowing one from a
