WASHINGTON, April 21. Te
rederal reclamation service points
with pride to the development of the I
Orland project In California. It j
preaches the success of cooperation ;
In Irrigation. Preceding the opening'
of the proect the region was one vast'
wheat field with ranches far apart
marked by ramshackle dwellings.!
The community was described as
dead. Today It Is called one of the
Inspiring young districts of the Pa-,
clflc coast.
Smalt farms, 40 acre or ao, have
taken the place of the big wheat
runches and the farms are adorned
by attractive homes. Fine dairy
herds graze and the roadways are
lined with shade and fruit trees. The
community spirit pruvidcB enjoyable
social life.
Orland's dairy Industry took J90,
000 from the creamery In the past
year and the creamery declared a 10
per cent dividend for the benefit of
the 34 dairymen composing it. J
Speaking of dairying, on the Uma
tilla. Oregon, project, live dairymen1
have organized an association to im-j
prove the stock and encourage the
purchase of more milch cows. Her-1
nilston has a creamery that has been
unable thus far to supply the de-i
mand. j
A policeman's whistle for the use
of the farmer's wife Is becoming a
recognized farm utility in some sec-
tlons. It works fine, since a good (
one can be heard to the furthermost:
corner of the average farm. If she1
wants the head of the family, the
wife blows one blast: for the eldest
son, two blasts; next oldest three and
so following. Then, too, many wives
have emergency signal in case of
trouble.

USINESS suits with "Dress Suit" tailor
ing. Particular young men and men
who stay young, prefer our clothes be
cause of their smartness and their exquisite
finish.
B
Every business suit is designed and hand
tailored with the scrupulous care that is usu
ally reserved to evening clothes.
This careful attention to detail increases
the value pf the garment without increasing
the price to you. For these clothes are so
widely sold to men of good taste that it is pos
sible to sell them on a very narrow margia of
profit.
Even though the price you pay be the most
modest in our scale your garments will be per
fect in style and fit and embody that fineness
of finish which insures the distiaction.

ward drafting a petition to the state
desert land board at Salem to cancel

WASHINGTON', April 20. One of
the picturesque developments In the
fight of the anti-liquor forces to se
cure nation-wide prohibition came to
light here with the announcement
that at the next Congress there will
be an "On to Washington" movement
of those who aympathlxe with the
prohibition propaganda.
The plan Is to hnve many thou
sands of men and women reach
Washington on a concerted date and
surround the rapitol to give a dem
onstration of prohibition sentiment.
