At an important meeting of the county organization Farmers' Union, held at Milton Saturday, the subject of good roads was I 'stunned along with other topics of Interest. W. W. Harrah was the chief speaker on the subject and set forth the contention that from a farmer's standpoint the most valuable road Is the one that will reduce freight rates. Evans, secretary of the Pendleton agency, spoke upon the subject of cooperation. Mr. Evans suggested among other things that there Is necessity for farmers, businessmen and profession al men to come to a closer under- distant mail order houses he advised that farmers pay their home mer chants cash and Insist upon good service. The speaker1 urged that when a man does not have the mon ey he borrow money of his banker and meet his bills, the contention be Ing the banker would -prefer loaning money to a farmer on real estate si- curity than to a merchant The subject of the annual Farmers' L'nion picnic was up for considera tion and Pilot Rock Invited the pic nic to that town. The matter of deciding both upon the place and date for the picnic was left with the executive committee. Among the local people In attend ance at the meeting were W.
