Sales of wheat Included: 5000 bushels May club at $1.27 1-2, 6000 bushels April red fife at 11.23 1-2. WHEAT CLOSES WITH A LOSS (Wednesday's Market.) CHICAGO. III. Wheat closed 1 1-4 Ji 1 l-2c lower. Opening prices were higher today. May wheat start ed at $1.53 1-2 a bushel. July wheat opened at $1.23 1-2. The strength, however, did not hold. May dropped 2c a bushel early In the trading nnt July declined more than a cent. Sep tember wheat was steady. , Corn was firm. July corn opened at 76 1-Sc and May at 73 5-Sc. Oats were steady. Provisions dull. The demand for wheat, was light. Bears raided the market' with fair results. In the coin trade the bearish fac tor was the poor demand for the cash article. Buying of May corn at 73c was of a fair volume. The Liv erpool market was higher. Export business was reported as light. WHEAT. Mehemed Raghib Bey, Turx'sh consul at I'runiinh, in the most east ern theater of the war, where Turks and Russians are struggling, led an attack on Americana at that place. He was at the head of seventy Aeka rl who sacked the American mis sion about which 15.000 Christians had taken refuge. The consul or dered three priests and two deacons to leave the mission, and as they were passing through the streets they were Insulted and mercilessly beaten. In the courtard of the orthodox mission a gibbet was erected. An American missionary, Mr. Al len, who was also subjected to Insults and blows, succeeded In sending to Selmas two messengers to ask for prompt assistance from the Russian troop to save the live of the Chris tians, whom the mission wa not able to protect. . PHILOMATH. Ore., April 1. Fire destroyed a livery barn owned by Dave Fendall, of this place. All the horse were taken out but two, and nearly all vehicles were destroyed.
