Whent bids were Ec to 9c a bushel below Saturday's figures for spot, but there waa an unusually heavy spread between bid and ask prices. Oata bids for spot on the exchange were $1 a ton below the finals of last week. The only sale was a lot of J00 tons of May at $36.23 per ton. Judge Uradshaw convened circuit court here to hear the arguments of attorneys in the case of the Oregon Lumber com pany vs. the East Fork Irrigation district, in which the lumner company, alleging that the further u of the streum by the district will seriously retard it in the operation of Its saw mill at Dee, seek to restrain the Ir rigation district from diverting the waters of the enst fork of the Hood River. The lumber company's mill is driven by electricity generated by the waters of the east and middle forks of Hood River. The testimony in the cae was taken before a referee here several weeks ago. J. H. Bernhardt of New Orleans Is organising a $5,000,000 company, to be known as the Mississippi River Navigation Co., which shall have for its object the operation of a barge line on the Mississippi. It was Bernhardt who, last sum mer, ran a barge from New Orleans to St. Paul and back, Just to demon st rate the possibilities of river navl gbtion between these points.
